Pentagon Built on USDA Hemp Field

Pentagon Built on USDA Hemp Field

Found recently at a garage sale outside Buffalo but never publicly released, these journals chronicle the life of Lyster H. Dewey, a botanist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture whose long career straddled the 19th and 20th centuries. Dewey writes painstakingly about growing exotically named varieties of hemp — Keijo, Chinamington and others — on a tract of government land known as Arlington Farms. In effect, he was tending Uncle Sam’s hemp farm.

What’s gotten hemp advocates excited about the discovery is the location of that farm. A large chunk of acreage was handed over to the War Department in the 1940s for construction of the world’s largest office building: the Pentagon. So now, hempsters can claim that an important piece of their legacy lies in the rich Northern Virginia soil alongside a hugely significant symbol of the government that has so enraged and befuddled them over the years.

Nothing sums up the absurdity of the $20 billion a year War on Drugs like the fact that the brain trust who leads us into one Oil War after another built their expensive office building on a former USDA hemp field.

Instead of simply allowing US farmers to grow the food, fiber and fuel we need to thrive as a nation, we send their children to die for foreign oil we wouldn’t need if they were simply allowed to grow hemp in the first place.

If that’s not the biggest example of a Corrupt Government running amok, I don’t know what is…

Unless you count the fact that anybody trying to grow the most versatile and valuable crop known to man, (like Presidents Washington and Jefferson did) will also be thrown in prison.

God Bless (Corporate) America!

Hemp For Victory

‘Hemp For Victory’ is the Holy Grail of the modern hemp movement, kickstarted by the late, great, Jack Herer with his monumental book The Emperor Wears No Clothes.

The 1942 USDA film explained the long history of hemp as a natural resource and how essential it was to the war effort,  but by 1989 the film had vanished from the Library of Congress with the US Government had declaring that there was “no such film”.

When Jack found a copy, what he saw was a very, VERY, different story than the current DEA party line that hemp and marijuana are nothing but deadly drugs that needed to be wiped off the face of the plant before corrupting the youth of America and destroying our nation. Far from the “Schedule 1 Drug”* of today, hemp had been declared “vital to our national security” during WWII, just as it had been in the war of 1812 and all the other wars that relied on hemp based ropes and sails for the thousands of years of human history before foreign oil began powering our ships (and cars, and factories.)

Decades after the film was rediscovered and Jack’s book was published, our government still officially declares hemp to be nothing but a hippie pipe dream. But today we have the internet and the truth is available to everyone in the world, proving more than anything else that the dark ages of hemp prohibition are fading with the light of truth.

Instead of continuing to bow down to oppressive Federal regulations and the DEA’s expensive and inhuman War on Innocent Americans “Drugs”, we can now point to this incontrovertible and fact filled film to prove that their $30 billion a year war is based on nothing but racism, lies, and the DEA’s self-serving desire to keep the people of America afraid and under their thumb by not allowing us to grow the one crop that could rebuild America’s heartland from the ground up.

The truth shall set us free. We got to fight the powers that be.

*For those in need of a good laugh (or cry), here is the DEA’s definition of Schedule 1 Drugs:

Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Schedule I drugs are the most dangerous drugs of all the drug schedules with potentially severe psychological or physical dependence. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are:

heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote

“Less dangerous” Schedule 2 Drugs include:

cocaine, methamphetamine, methadone, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), meperidine (Demerol), oxycodone (OxyContin), fentanyl, Dexedrine, Adderall, and Ritalin

Marijuana vs Hemp

Americans' Views on Legalizing Marijuana

For First Time, Americans Favor Legalizing Marijuana

Success at the ballot box in the past year in Colorado and Washington may have increased Americans’ tolerance for marijuana legalization. Support for legalization has jumped 10 percentage points since last November and the legal momentum shows no sign of abating. Last week, California’s second-highest elected official, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, said that pot should be legal in the Golden State, and advocates of legalization are poised to introduce a statewide referendum in 2014 to legalize the drug.

There is no question that marijuana is far less toxic and damaging to people, and society as a whole, than alcohol or cigarettes. But no matter how benign, there is also no question that marijuana is a drug that affects people in both positive and negative ways, so some type of public safety regulation is reasonable. Unfortunately, this debate over the facts and decades of anti-drug propaganda have completely buried the far more important fact that hemp was never meant to be banned in the first place.

Industrial hemp was a well known, versatile, and valuable crop for thousands of years which could once again allow American farmers to supply American manufacturers with the food, fiber, fuel, and jobs  we need to end our dependence on petrochemical products. Petrochemicals based on foreign oil, produced by third world dictatorships. Our government’s support for these “bad people” (as Dick Cheney said) is why the “they” hate us. Hemp grown for food and fiber in the third world would also reduce the cost of living around the world, directly reducing the number of desperate people willing to blow themselves up to stop our support of these same dictatorships.

Gallup should do a survey of how many people think we should continue to spend $20 billion a year on a Drug War that bans the one crop that could also end our “need” to spend over $1 Trillion a year on “defense” to protect those oil soaked dictatorships. I’m betting the only people who continue to support the War on Hemp (and American farmers) are the DEA agents and local police who get a cut of that $20 billion to kick in doors and ruin the lives of innocent Americans.

Screwing America for Fun and Profit!

Daily Kos: The Seven Lying Democrats That Betrayed Democracy, and Joined GOP on HR 368 to Deny Vote on Clean CR

Now it doesn’t surprise me in the least that Republicans would do this. It doesn’t outrage me that the use of backhanded, undemocratic measures are being employed by the party controlled by Tea Party loons.

What does infuriate me is the fact the seven Democrats crossed party lines to vote for a resolution that gives Eric Cantor, and only Eric Cantor the ability to bring fourth a vote a clear CR to get the government working aging…and yes, open the monuments.

Corporate Conservative “Blue Dog” Democrats (also known as The Loyal Opposition) are just as bad as Corporate Conservative Republicans. They are the epitome of corrupt politicians who have turned our government against the people they are supposed to represent.

The House GOP’s Little Rule Change That Guaranteed A Shutdown

Late on the night of Sept. 30, with the federal government just hours away from shutting down, House Republicans quietly made a small change to the House rules that blocked a potential avenue for ending the shutdown.

It went largely unnoticed at the time. But with the shutdown more than a week old and House Democrats searching for any legislative wiggle room to end it, the move looms large in retrospect in the minds of the minority party.

“What people don’t know is that they rigged the rules of the House to keep the government shut down,” Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), ranking member of the House Budget Committee, told TPM in an interview. “This is a blatant effort to make sure that the Senate bill did not come up for a vote.”

It’s time to stop the absurd charade that President Obama is responsible for the shutdown of our government.

This is nothing less than a well planned hijacking of our democracy by the same billionaire-funded right-wing extremists who gave us the John Birch society, and can’t admit they lost the civil war. They fought against civil rights, and women’s rights, and social security, and medicare, and food stamps, and continue to gnash their teeth in fear as the rest of the world leaves their ignorance and hatred in the rearview mirror of history.

Corporate pawns on the right  and the left subvert our “Guv’ment of The People” because it’s the only thing that can stop their corporate masters from abusing us for fun and profit. They tell us “Big Government” is bad, but Big Banks are good then do everything in their power to hurt the American people and turn our government it into a festering pile of waste, fraud, and corporate abuse to prove how bad it is.

Nobody claims the Federal Government can solve all our problems, but while Democrats and Republicans have different spending priorities, the vast majority of us can all agree on the simple fact that the one thing our country DOES NOT NEED right now is the Federal government making things far worse by jabbing a knife in the backs of the people of this country and raising our cost of living more than it already is.

As the old saying goes: “You don’t have to help me, just stop trying to fuck me.”

Support Our Troops…

Million Vet March Organizers Condemn Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, and the Tea Party.

Tea partiers are proud of themselves for taking an event about veterans and turning it into another platform to showcase their hatred of this president, but they should be ashamed of themselves. The people who turned the march into an anti-Obama rally shamed and humiliated our veterans. Every vet knows that it doesn’t matter what political party a president is from, they are still the Commander in Chief. The organizers of this event may or may not be conservatives, but it is clear that they didn’t want the tea party mob, or Palin and Cruz’s grandstanding at their event.

How to properly “Support Our Troops”:

1)   DO NOT send them into wars based on lies, to protect the interests of the Multinational Banks and Corporations that are robbing their families back home.

2)   DO NOT cut the health care benefits and support network of those soldiers and their families while cutting the taxes of those same Multinational Banks and Corporations.

3)   DO NOT hurt the families and friends of our troops by shutting down their government because you don’t want “poor moochers to have the freedom of better, cheaper health care, and a lower cost of living” (which is what the soldiers thought they were fighting for in the first place.

4)  DO NOT wrap yourself in the flag they fought for while lighting a fire under the American people and trying to burn down the government that protects us from the those Multinational Banks and Corporations.

About Damn Time!

California Governor Signs Senator Leno’s Industrial Hemp Bill

“Hemp grown right here in California would stimulate massive growth in the food, body care, textiles, building and other crucial sectors that suffer from having to import less efficient materials in lieu of this lucrative industrial crop,” says David Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. “The nationwide movement to legalize industrial hemp and farm it right here in the US to benefit American business is growing, and SB 566 opens a door to incredible opportunity for farmers who seek sustainable agriculture, ecologically responsible businesses and products. Ultimately, this bill will help end the prohibition on what is one of the most versatile and environmentally revolutionary industrial crops on the planet.”

I have no doubt that the confluence of agriculture and technology will allow California to lead the nation in hemp production and manufacturing, and it’s about damn time Gov. Brown stood up for hemp as a major agricultural commodity.

Who’s Health Care Would Jesus Take Away?

Matthew 25:31-46

‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

How can self-professed Conservative Christians look Jesus in the face while they ignore  his most important teachings?

Jesus healed the sick, he didn’t punish them for getting sick.

HE preached empathy and mercy, not greed and hate.

HE said a house divided against itself will not stand.

Those are REAL Christian values, not the false Corporate Christian “values” that have turned the Republican party into a morass of ignorance, fear, and hate.

TAKE YOUR PARTY BACK to its Republic-an roots and stand with the rest of the People of America against the corrupt politicians driving us apart.

And just in case you’re confused about the 7 deadly sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride are BAD THINGS, not slogans for a Political Party platform.
