Republicans and Democrats for years have fought so bitterly that lawmaking in Washington ground to a near-halt.<\/p>\n<p>Yet in the case of the Abrams tank, theres a bipartisan push to spend an extra $436 million on a weapon the experts explicitly say is not needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we had our choice, we would use that money in a different way,\u201d Gen. Ray Odierno, the Armys chief of staff, told The Associated Press this past week.<\/p>\n<p>Why are the tank dollars still flowing? Politics.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 21px;\">Once again our Corporate Congress proves that \u201cProtecting National Defense\u201d is only about \u201cProtecting the Military Industrial Complex\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>If\u00a0politicians really wanted to HELP the people of America, they wouldn\u2019t slash social programs that DIRECTLY HELP the majority of Americans to pay for tanks that nobody wants or needs.<\/p>\n<p>When politicians see corporations as \u201cPeople\u201d, and The People as \u201ctakers\u201d, you get more tanks in the Middle East instead of cheaper health care here home.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abrams Tank Pushed By Congress Despite Armys Protests Its the inverse of the federal budget world these days, in which automatic spending cuts are leaving sought-after pet programs struggling or unpaid altogether.
